Hauppauge Media Centre Remote Control Kit - Model 335

The Hauppauge Media Centre Remote Control Kit is an excellent choice for a direct replacement of the now defunct Microsoft Media Centre remote and IR receiver. Priced around AU$40, the kit is almost a direct replacement. Installation is as simple as plugging it in, since the drivers used are the same as the Microsoft device.

*Held in the hand the remote feels a bit lighter and more flimsy than the genuine Microsoft equivalent. When you open up the battery compartment the two AA cells (included) fir directly against the circuit board, no moulded internal case here. Overall it doesn't have quite the same finesse and feeling of robustness.

With no apparent ability to program the TV and volume buttons as soft button...

And probably the most important point is - triple tap (the sms style text entry via remote)

My Logitech remote does this also, via the MS receiver.

So does mine, but that wasn't the point.

The point is that this is the only other receiver/remote combo on the market that provides this functionality. And with the MS remote discontinued that makes this the only way to get it.

Thanks for the review.

I got one to use the receiver with my Logitech Harmony remote on my VMC system and it works perfectly. I'm not using the remote itself but can confirm that all the keys work properly with a 32 bit VMC system.

Re: Hauppauge Media Centre Remote Control Kit - Model 335

Hey, does anyone have issues with this remote picking up interference from a plasma? I have the Sunwave remote (very similar) and occasionally a single click will be repeated hundreds of times, as the receiver light seems to get confused from the plasma light. The light inside the receiver will light up faintly, and this stops if I put my hand in front to shield it.

So any thoughts/experiences on this?

Cheers,
Goons
