Logitech diNovo Mini

dinovo-mini-3.jpgLogitech’s diNovo Mini just might do something rare in the media centre space; re-writing the rules for keyboards. Place the diNovo Mini on your coffee table next to a normal wireless keyboard and you’ll see what the hype over Logitech’s keyboard is about. Compared with the svelte diNovo Mini, a normal keyboard looks like a relic from the 1970’s.
The diNovo Mini comes ingeniously packaged in a puzzlingly big box. The trickiest part of the set-up is indeed getting the keyboard out of the box. Ins...

Re: Logitech diNovo Mini

Bought one the other day for $149. While still a bit fiddly, the click pad works so much better than the old MS keyboard stick. The bluetooth is a god send because the MS keyboard had to be pointing directly at the receiver for it to work

Really happy with it apart from 2 things:

1. Doesn't seem to work at boot so I can't use it for bios settings, which means the corded keyboard stays for emergencies. Could someone confirm this?

2. Setpoint software refuses to install - possibly no great loss by the sound of it

Confirmed, It can't work untill Windows loads the BT driver.

Re: Logitech diNovo Mini

I have a bluetooth MS keyboard (entertainment 7000) and this DOES work during boot - eg. for navigating BIOS settings.

Re: Logitech diNovo Mini

Not that it's really a problem - I've never ever accessed the bios settings once I've set everything up. This keyboard is exactly what I've been looking for. I, for one, never liked having a full sized keyboard on my lounge table, and this is svelte, easy to use and just simply works.

I don't have a problem with "clicking the mouse button" as the I move the mouse cursor with the top-right pad with the right thumb, and click the mouse button with the top-left button with the left thumb. The only gripe is that there isn't really a right mouse button per-se - you have to hold down the Fn key on one hand and either click the touchpad or the left-top button with the other.

I ran across a review on the net (can't remember offhand) which stated that the receiver it comes with isn't very good and the range is short. Not the case here. My dining table is 7+meters away from the HTPC and I'm controlling everything just fine (although admittedly it's much harder to read the plasma from that distance).

One other comment - I've had several people advise me that I would be better off getting a "real remote" (read: the usual candy-bar) and using this only when I had to type something as it wouldn't be as easy to operate. Perhaps it's horses-for-courses, but I'm finding it to be totally untrue! Switching channels, changing volumes, navigating menus are all very simple to do on this. Bugger, wish I hadn't bought a separate MS Media Centre remote while I was waiting for this to arrive!

-Ray

PS. Mine cost $135.30 from ARC (found them via www.staticice.com.au). And no, I don't have any affiliations with either.

Re: Logitech diNovo Mini

Is it an actual bluetooth dongle (i.e can you connect other devices to it)?

I have a few logitech devices (DiNovo Edge, MX Revolution mouse) and all the dongles, while bluetooth just appear as USB hubs. This allows you to use the keyboard in BIOS (provided the USB support is set to BIOS instead of OS).

It would be a departure from Logitech's normal practices to require the bluetooth driver support.

I have the Dinovo edge and it's worked fine for bios on two mb's so far - a biostar p965 and my current foxconn.
The only minor issue I had at first was that I couldn't get the F8 boot menu, but that was resolved by enabling usb keyboard support in bios.
It now works exactly like any other corded ps2 or usb keyboard.

Just a thought, bios my not be interested in talking to it if another corded keyboad is also plugged in.

This little keyboard looks great!!
I'll have to hunt one down and check out the bios situation myself.
Do all the keys illuminate and stay illuminated while you type? The review pic is a little confusing with only the 'Back' key lit.

All the keys illuminate and stay illuminated when you type. The first key you press causes the illumination, and the illumination stays on for a few seconds after the last key is typed. In a dark room you might need to press the Function button initially to illuminate the keyboard if you are not able to see your first key. Opening the cover also causes all keys to illuminate for a few seconds.
