Hauppauge HVR-2200 Digital Tuner

Hauppauge have been a long time player in the TV tuner space, there analogue tuner cards are regarded as some of best out there due to the onboard hardware MPEG-2 compression. Today’s preview focuses on the yet to be released HVR-2200. The card is a dual Digital/dual Analogue (with hardware MPEG) and FM tuner all in a low profile PCIE x1 card. New Magic Australia was kind enough to allow me to beta test and write about this nifty piece of DVB-T kit.

My first impressions of the card were good, be aware though that I didn't have a whole lot of time wit...

Looks really cool!

But I don't quite understand what you mean by "dual Digital/dual Analogue (with hardware MPEG) and FM tuner"

Does this mean that it has one digital and one analogue tuner? Or does it have 2 digital and 2 analogue tuners?

Thadious - The HVR-2200 is a dual hybrid card, which means it has 2 tuners which function as either digital tuners or analogue tuners. (not both at the same time). When setting up TV in VMC you are prompted if you want to use DVB-T or analogue.

Zilch - I haven't heard any more from New Magic so not really sure on either question sorry.

Zilch, I asked that question to New Magic, they said that they won't be setting the price because it's OEM, but their guess was around $200. Should hit the market late this month or early next month.. can't wait!

good review

looks similar to the leadtek 3200H which so far has been a rock solid card for me in VMC and can be had for ~$100.

That card is single hybrid tuner ~$100, the HVR-2200 is a dual hybrid tuner ~$200

Mine came with both, I'm using low profile
