Globlink GKM-700 RF Wireless Keyboard

pic61.jpgLet me paint a scenario for you. You are introduced to a girl who seems ideal. She is intelligent, witty, fun to be with and, while perhaps not stunningly beautiful, certainly attractive. So taken by her are you that you ask her to dinner at a nice restaurant. It is here you discover that she lacks a certain refinement. She chews with her mouth open and talks with her mouth full. You are now faced with a dilemma. As much as you really like her, you don’t know that you could live with her day in and day out. What does this have to do with this review you ask? - well that’s the dilemma I'm faced with when I consider t...

Looks cheap. I will take it to the bed, but not the restaurant

Re: Globlink GKM-700 RF Wireless Keyboard

I bought another RF keyboard from this manufacturer, they have the same USB dongle.

The key feel was noticeable, but for maintenance purposes not a big deal.

What did kill the keyboard was frequent problems with connectivity. When it worked, the range was great and responsiveness reasonably good. But more often than not it would not work, even after pressing all the connect buttons to re-sync. I'm using Vista, FWIW. Anyway, keyboard ended up on floor with size 10 through it before I got to return it to the retailer. A sad end to a promising start....

Re: Globlink GKM-700 RF Wireless Keyboard

I've used one of these a few times in a customer's showroom & I found that I wanted to chuck it out the window within 5 minutes every time.

Glen's talk about the key feel is spot on.

I actually found the trackball nearly as frustrating as the MCE KB stick mouse.

I found the connectivity to be pretty poor - you had to find the sweet spot for it to work consistently. I suspect this is due to the amount of 2.4GHz traffic in the area (about 15 networks detected when you scan for available networks on a laptop) - even still, that's not good enough.

I won't submit my ratings as I don't own one, but if I did, they'd be pretty low.

Re: Globlink GKM-700 RF Wireless Keyboard

Alas I have had one of their RF keyboards in the past too. It sits proudly in the back of a cupboard somewhere collecting dust as I'm fairly sure it was designed to do! I'm still waiting on somebody to come up with a sensibly priced backlit Li powered Media Center specific keyboard with integrated optical trackball that really works. I'm not holding my breath though!
