This is weird. I use Vista RC1 and I went to play a DVD I have had no isssues with before in XP.
So I fire it up in WMP11 and it says 'your PC is running low on memory'. Possibly, so I went to MCE and it said 'no decoder installed'? How can two programs which are pretty much identical have different problems?
No worries - there is a timebomb in MPEG2 decoder MS supplies which times out on Oct 31st 2006 - so set your clocks back if you have trouble - mine is November 19 2004.
I am also getting the same message. Cannot play live TV, recorded TV or DVD with either MS or Cyberlink decoders. I am running RC2 and everything was perfect up to 2 days ago.
Will try a restore on the machine back to prior to christmas. I noticed 2 windows updates over the past couple of days. Maybe this has caused it.
..after reading another thread I changed my system clock back to December 1st,... All is now fine
MS should be shot for this type of activity.. I have already ordered my upgrade to Vista but since it will not be delivered to the end of the month this is a real pain..

Reason: tried changing clock
Right then - but I guess like - Nvidia and Cyberlink make you pay for the privelege of using theirs after 30 days or immediately so MS has got the same idea.
"We'll make those RC1 and RC2-using users go to RTM - but they don't know we know it can be changed". Mine should be fine - set it to 2004 - I have an iPod dock so I can see the time and date.
Is yours performing like a dog when you have Aero enabled?
Aero on my machine is performing well. The motherboard has a 6150 GPU on it and it gave a performance of 2.1 this caused stuttering on HD TV. I upgraded to a 7600gt and now it shows a performance of 5.6 and video using Aero is fine.
Mine is about 2.6 and uses an FX5200. I haven't installed my Tuna yet but I will later...at least the crap Twinhan software PVR app does not work. I notice I switch back to Basic Theme and it is fine again, however it looks like an extra 1GB of RAM is on the books.
I was thinking maybe buy MCE2005 OEM and see about an upgrade...or just buy Home Premium straight out. Really, what does Ultimate offer over Premium? A few extras and maybe some other stuff which I don't need. As long as it has MCE, Aero and is stable I will be happy.
As of December 31, 2006, users running Windows Vista RC1 beta code will no longer have access to the Media Center functionality, due to the expiration of the MPEG 2 decoder and Dolby Digital components built into Windows Vista and used by the Media Center experience," Microsoft said in a statement in response to inquiries by CNET News.com. "Because these technologies are licensed and royalty bearing, they will expire within a certain time period, according to our license agreements."
I am getting the same decoder message in Vista, but also in MCE 2005! Managed to get video working again but no sound for Live TV on HD channels.
Any chance that Vista could have messed with MCE 2005??

i know its free and all, but these days, you still have to be upfront about what you are offering wven when its free. food outlets with left-over food at the end of the day are not even supposed to give left over food to homeless people because if its off then the person/shop giving out the food is liable. i dont necessarily agree with that, but i definatetly am damn kranky about how much time i've wasted stuffing around with vista beta due to things expiring already, when it was advertised to be valid until june 2007. if i had known that everything was going to expire i never would have bothered with it.
i reckon m$ has alot to answer for all the greif they've put people throught with vista beta versions.

Vista beta is still valid until june 07, its the MCE components that have expired due to licensing agreements with Dolby.
MS like their MCE software but it aint the focus, the focus is the OS itself for MS. But yeah I am glad I didnt stuff around too much with it. yes you can bump date back but that negates the guide.
