Vista and XVid

I'm having a few strange problems with my Vista MCE partition. Firstly, the video library keeps crashing on me. Sometimes it works fine, but the it'll just crash on me. I have a sneaking suspicion that it is actually a problem with a codec. The reason I say this is that or some reason, some of the videos that used to work in XP MCE now don't play. Particularly the Xvid ones. They work if I play them in Media Player, but they just refuse to play inside of MCE. This seems really bizarre to me, as I thought that MCE used Media Player to play content.

I have installed both the Divx and the Xvid codecs. Is there something else I'm not doing?

Thanks

Re: Vista and XVid

Have a hunt around cuz I've seen a few threads whereby people were finding there interface would crash when Vista MCE was generating the thumbnails within My Videos.

I have had descrepancies with XVids that play fine in Media Player but have static in white areas when played in MCE. I'm guessing it has something to do with the Microsoft provided decoder because that is the new addition.

I was just going to live with using Media Player for XVids but the strange thing is, I rebuilt and now it's fine!! All identical software to the previous build!

Re: Vista and XVid

You could try removing xvid and divx standalone codecs and try ffdshow instead.

Cheers,

Arkay.

Re: Vista and XVid

I'd like to tip you this way: http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

It works really good with vista, I even get DX9 WMR thingy in MCE.. Well that might be because of the upgrade to WMP11 but it really gives me a whole lot better blacks and whites.

From what I've read most people have god results with this version.

Re: Vista and XVid

I had the same issue when I had the KLM Codec pack installed. It seemed to be fine after uninstalling it and just installing ffdshow rev420.

Then again I still had random lockups and crashes on RC2 but these were then more while navigating the interface rather than while playing movies or generating thumbnails.
