Vista RC2 - audio /xvid issues

Hi all,

I was previously running Vista RC1 with no issues other than some minor irritations with sound going crazy every now and then; decided to upgrade to RC2 and have had no end of problems.

Initially I did the upgrade, but eventually decided to re-install from scratch - the new install was better, but I now have the following issues:

- cannot get optical digital output (toslink) to work at all (Realtek ALC882)
- xvid/divx video - I am running xvid 1.1 codec and everything white goes to odd black - I've read some other things about this elsewhere, but I can't seem to get any build of ffdshow to install.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks!
Craig

Re: Vista RC2 - audio /xvid issues

I have had problems with the optical out on soundmax Hd audio, so you arent alone. I have been told that HDCP (high definition content protection) is to blame. as without proper drivers that comply it will scale down sound to stereo and not dolby digital or 5.1.

have you downloaded the vista beta drivers from realtek, some people have had success.

Re: Vista RC2 - audio /xvid issues

hey guys, sorry about the delay in reply.

I have had some success - although I couldnt tell you how...

After re-installing RC2 for a fourth time, loading the XP driver (Which complains and didnt give me Optical output either), then loading the Vista driver - it actually worked. I'm not sure what I'm actually getting out of it though - certainly not FTA tv is coming out in anything other than 2 channels.

I'm happy enough with that for now though, I just needed it to actually output from optical as I didn't have a decent lead for 3.5mm to RCA

The xvid issue - I've given up for now!

Re: Vista RC2 - audio /xvid issues

with regards to your xvid issues , the only way I was able to get it working was to install ffdshow rev236 and divx installer together since then no dramas, with just one or the other no joy .Hope this helps pm me if you need the files
