Ok before i start this new thread, I have to point out that I use torrents for STRICTLY LEGAL file sharing. I do not in anyway support torrent use for piracy.
Now i have that out of my system, I am having serious problems using a number of torrent clients in vista. I set up the UPNP fine and get great download speeds. This lasts for about an hour or two before my computer looses conctivity to the rest of my network. It is not a problem with my router (D-Link DSL 504T) as other people on the network continue to use the internet fine. The network is opperational on my computer after a restart. For the record, My computer was happy downloading torrents at max speed for days in XP. It shouldnt be hardware based.
First of all i assumed it was that there were to many connections per torrent, so i changed it to one torrent at a time with a maximum of 20 connections per torrent. I was still getting good speeds, and then BAM. Did it again. I am stuck for ideas. This is massively frustrating. I turn on my computer and leave it going overnight to download only to find out it died one hour after it started.
I would probably be looking at your network drivers under vista ??. I was using a dlink usb wlan, which was doing the same thing as you are describing. bought an belkin AP connect to Nvidia NIC. works a treat. by the way I am using bitlord.
I found something similar. Under XP and utorrent for a well seeded torrent I usually peak at 1.9Mb/s, minutes later under Vista and utorrent downloading the same file I couldn't get faster than 800kb/s.

Using uTorrent too. I am not having speed issues. My line is maxing out quite nicely when i use the reccomended number of slots.
Done a fair bit of looking into it. There is a thread on the uTorrent forum where a guy described the exact same thing an me. He had 12 replys from different people backing him up. And what did they all have in common? nForce4 chipsets. I had the same problem with Azureus too so it isnt just uTorrent.
I just sent an email to nVidia support. Got a very quick reply. They just said that if they can reproduce the error on their computers then they will patch the error in the next nForce4 update. I cant keep torrents going for more than 3 hours at the moment - and that is with 20 connections per torrent (insteald of 150-200) so my speed is about 1/4 of what it should be.
Very interesting.. I've experienced exactly the same with an Nforce 4 Ultra chipset. But I've found any large amount of network activites such as transferring files around the home network (gbit) causes networking to barf.
I've found uTorrent dies after a while as well.
Cheers,
Matt.

Just wondering if anyone experiencing these problems has any of the network extras turned on, eg nvidia firewall etc.
I had similar problems when I first got one of the newer boards and I loaded up all the extra bits included on the CD. Nothing but problems, especially with the nvidia firewall. I found that I was getting network drop outs and poor performance. In the end, I uninstalled all the extra bits and haven't had a problem since.
I haven't tried any of the extras on my latest board (sold the previous one) so I don't know if it's still an issue, or even related to the issues experienced here.
NVidia firewall is nothing but trouble. It is the least compatable firewall on the market. You cant install uTorrent without getting warnings about compatiability with it. Anyone semi experienced in filesharing (p2p, network shares ect...) gives it a wide berth. I am included. LOL
I dont think your board is nForce4? It is clearly an nForce ethernet adapter driver problem. I am back onto XP x64 and it is back to normal hoovering in max dl speed for days at a time.
The setup in my sig is for my Media Centre which isn't running Vista.
I'm running utorrent on another rig which is Nforced. When I get home I'll check to see if its using the ethernet or wireless. I 90% sure its on ethernet but I maybe wrong.
