has anyone succesfully used x64 build and got tv going?
what tv card have u got???
I have Twinhan and doubt i can goto the 64bit build even though ive got the hardware for it
I have an avermedia hybrid + fm card. they have drivers for xp x64, but not vista yet. Using these xp drivers I got it to work on vista x64 - as is said it worked, but was very unstable. caused lots of BSOD's. Wasnt too keen on avermdia customer service though.
I have the x64 version going with Avermedia 161A. I am using the 64-bit drivers they released on the web. Seems to be ok...
A few problems I have are:
1. When I first powerup and go into MCE, go to LiveTV, I have a blank screen, I have to change the channel first, and it then picks up video/audio... It then works fine.
2. I can not resume from standby, I am aware that a fair few people have this issue. My PC appears to turn itself on at exactly 1am, and for the life of me, I can not work out why, the event viewer gives me no joy, it seems to be network related, I have WOL turned off... I have even disabled the onboard net card... As I don't use it, I use wireless, so unless the D-Link G520 wireless card isn't quite perfect in 64-bit yet...
If anybody out there can help me with any of this issues.... I would really appreciate it.

Yep identical problems with mine. Converted back to x86 and the drivers were much better. Everything works, and is much more responsive. Can i ask why you selected x64 with you current setup?
I just built the new computer, and being BTX, i decided to try the 64bit, as I will definately want to run it in the future, based on performance more than anything.. But as usual the 64bit software is sloppy to say the least, the o/s runs smooth as, and is very responsive, but its all the add-ons, software, drivers, etc... that still remain unchanged...
I always play with the different o/s's to see what will work best for me, and hopefully others...
I will go back to the 32bit version tonight I think, see if I can notice any major difference, I doubt I will... But hopefully the drivers are seamless...
Im just glad it only takes about 20mins to get it up and running now!!
Yeah. I have done a fair bit of work involving x64 with my work.
If you look into it, you wont notice any difference in OS performance without 4Gb of ram. The main benifit from x64 is managing large amounts of memory much more efficiently. With more than 4Gb of ram you OS can cache programs for faster use. 64bit applications running in windows can process large amounts of data more quickly too, but currently there are not many programs that are actaully 64 bit, not just 32bit applications with 64bit compatability. These run, but at the same speed as an x86 system. I have been using Matlab x64 in windows to manage very large matrix functions. I had to use Linux to do it in the end becasue that was the only way to get Matlab x64 running at full potential - even though it one of the few full x64 programs
So what am i getting at? Reguardless of the hype, without at least twice as much ram and propper x64 programs you wont see an increase in performance worth the inconvenience of instability though a lack of driver support. You can look at all the tests comparing x64 and x86, and they are very similar, x64 may creep ahead in some cases. But you are talking such small amounts that it is disputable. You are not targeting the true performace increase of a 64bit processor without the hardware support. I cant help with the development of better x64 drivers from my hardware manufacturers by using 64bit windows so i am leaving it until vista x64 RTM is released, I purchase more ram and when i get offical drivers for my hardware.
I love the analogy that 64bit is a v8 currently running on 4 cylinders.
I maintain a few servers, and every bloody seminar you go to, they are starting to push 64bit in your face, im under the impression that we will stay well clear of it, until proven.... I can see the benefits of maybe having 64bit server with SQL, but like you say, until the apps are fully supported in 64bit, its not really worth having it... And am I correct in assuming that the 64bit vista release is actually still running the 32bit MCE app? Hence the issues we had?
I fully agree. I maintain a few servers, and every bloody seminar you go to, they are starting to push 64bit in your face
Well 64bit is going to be the next big step forward into MUCH better computers. The sooner it gets proper backing the sooner it will take off and develop. I didn’t mean to scare people off x64 by my spill. More just pointing out that you wont see a huge difference unless you have a high end computer and you run processor intensive applications - video editing, graphic design, finite element analysis, 3d modelling, algebraic/statistics mathematics ect
Strangely enough media centre didn’t make my list.
High end servers are a different matter. The Sun multiple core 64bit servers are apparently setting the standard and leaving everything else for dead. Dont get confused between desktop/workstation and a server though - servers are all about handling massive ammounts of data qucikly - and i would say that is exactly what x64 architecture if for...
