Working EPG's for Vista

so far the only epg i have found that works is EPGrunner, and currently that is also not working (service is down or something). bladerunner pro version 3 throws an error while v3.5 will not even run. vista says "there is no guide availible for your region" when i have icetv or free*epg installed.

which brings me to two questions:
firstly Dnut why does the EPGrunner keep going down, can it be stopped and can i do anything to help?
secondly Monster, how hard is it to get BRP working on Vista and is there anything i can do to help?

You'd be far better off just buying an IceTV subscription

Re: Working EPG's for Vista

nope, not into paying for something which should be free.... I dont care about the little glitches, or the absence of progie descriptions etc, so Free epg suits me nicely

I can now confirm Free epg works fine woth Vista RC1. You just need to mnake sure your tuner is working OK first !

cheers

Re: Working EPG's for Vista

I have just installed Vista RC1 and when I scan for channels it doesn't pick up anything... Do I need to install an EPG first?? Sorry, I am a newbie to this

Cheers

Re: Working EPG's for Vista

There are problems with icetv as well. This is how I got it to work.

Install icetv as normal and start the media centre TV setup wizard

If you get an guide error after entering the postcode, go back to the postcode screen, minimise media centre and run icetv setup again. Return to media centre and continue wizard, should now work.

After each EPG update media centre will change the EPG registry settings. So run icetv setup again and manualy download the guide.

I cannot take credit for this as I read it elsewhere.

acunnington - you do not need to have a working EPG to scan channels. Your problem is something else.

I *think* if you turn off the User Account Control you won't have this problem.

well, if the tuner is isnt finding channels(with or without guide option) you really need to look at your tuner drivers ! are you abl eto get the tuner working without the guide ?? what tuner do you have ??

as for free epg, it is a free program that runs from the site. You should use IE to be able to use the freat "one click download option" Its very quick and easy, but please note you do need to register first.

there are clear instructions on their site too of course

cheers

Good suggestion but didn't fix the issue. Might have to wait for icetv to update their software to work with Vista.

Re: Working EPG's for Vista

i am sticking with xp for now...as much as i love the vista MC the EPG is the killer and without it a lot of new features aren't worth it.

i'm quite happy using the BRP / OzTivo software atm; if any help is needed adapting these programs for Vista let me know, i'll do what i can to help.

is your tuner working in Vista. Free EPG 1.1 worked a treat with a fresh install of Vista RC1. I reverted to MCE2k5 as its just more reliable ! (who would have though we'd ever say that!!!)

cheers

Re: Working EPG's for Vista

yeah the tuner was working fine...just epgrunner was the only epg that i could get working...and it is so unreliable...

i might install vista again when i have some spare time, although i would still like to see a new version of BRP / OzTivo before i do (just cause they are the best imo).
