Vista MCE Display Issue

Well finally got Vista up and going tonight and also got my Dvico Fusion Lite card working too.

I only have one issue though and the is with MCE side of Vista. My Pioneer plasma runs at 1280 x 720 @ 60Hz and when i fire up MCE for vista my plasma says signal not supported and i get a black screen. If i use the windows start button the desktop comes back. If i click on mce it comes back up until i do something with mce and then it goes black and the signal not supported error comes back.

I can set my plasma at 1024 x 768 at 60-75Hz but it looks washed out.

Any ideas guys? This is killing me.

Oh and cant get my VFD working on the front of my silverstone case, but apart from all that everything works beautifully.

Cheers

Re: Vista MCE Display Issue

This must surely be related to your graphics card and driver... what are you using ?? On my mobile rig, Vista doesnt go to the max 1300x768 I can achieve with xp/mce as it doesnt support it graphics hardware(Intel intgrated)...

cheers

Re: Vista MCE Display Issue

I am using a 7800 GTX 512Mb graphics card. It is really is a strange issue. I have been in IT professionally for many years and this one has got my brain going around in circles.

I have tried playing around with res and refresh rates to no avail. Might wait until a rc1 comes out and or better drivers come available.

Must admit though, once i got my Dvico card working it looked bloody nice. Also TV reception was extremely stable unlike mce 2005.

Spoke to Dvico for anyone who is interested and they are working on a driver for vista now.

you mention the 7800 GTX, have you tried the new vista beta drivers nvidia have released ?? http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_88.61.html

as for dvico, lolz, their older 3.0beta2 drivers work fine for me with vista and MCE.

Im not a Dvico fan at all. That Fusion app is so bloaty..ugh. I never install it nowdays. Im only using that POS dvico card because I got it cheap. Avermedia cards are wonderful on the other hand.

good luck !!

cheers

Re: Vista MCE Display Issue

I get a similar problem, I'm running an ATI Radeon 9600 XT, I though for a while that it was my graphics card causing the problem, tonight I'm going to try putting an Nvidia card in...
I've got my MCE machine plugged using the Svideo out from my graphics card, into my 32inch CRT tv. Windows seems to work perfectly, MCE, is just funny.. black screen when loading (i hear the MCE startup jingle) Bringing the start menu up causes the screen to redraw in the same way that Spawn1905 mentions.

The only difference is that I see my desktop with a black rectangle on it after I click on MCE. I think this is a driver issue?
Its odd that a few of us are seeing it with display adapters from different manufacturers.

---- Several Hours Later... -----
Just put in a different graphics card (Nvidia) and all works perfectly, definately graphics drivers causing my issues...

Re: Vista MCE Display Issue

I'm not sure if this is the same issue I had, but could be.

I had a blank screen problem on XP Media Centre whenever media centre had the focus - work around there posted by someone on this board was to create a new user profile. Same problem when I installed Vista - I though aha, I know how to fix this, but no joy with the new profile trick. So, I looked at the dodgy ATI graphics drivers. I'm running vista on tweo different systems, one with ATI Onboard and the other with a Radeon 9550, both had the blank screen when media centre was full screen, no problems if media centre was in a window, or on regular vista.

I installed the driver I was using for XP Media Centre which is Catalyst version 8.221.0.0 released in Jan this year. I didn't run the setup that comes with the drivers but pointed windows to the driver file. Installed OK and now no more blank screen problems when media centre has the focus - full screen.

I also installed the old control panel from ATI (not catalyst control centre) and that works well and I can switch between displays etc just like on XP. All in all a result. Now, obviously this is specific to ATI drivers, but maybe the same applies to other cards. Goodluck.
