Have you tried using an amplified splitter, rather than chaining via the pass-thru? I use to have a dvico dual + dvico lite, and used the pass-thru on the lite to feed the analogue tuner in the tv. I used a kingray sa22 powered splitter, to split the antenna from the wall into 2 - 1 fed the Lite, the other the dual. I still had problems scanning all channels (usually required 2 or 3 scans before I got them all), and occaisionally No TV signal.
I then change to 2 NovaT 500 and things are a lot better, but I'm certain my TV Antenna / cabling still contributes to poor signal strength. You can read about my 4 tuner adventures
