Divx for Xbox360 - SIGN The Petition !!

GO HERE TO SIGN UP:
http://new.petitiononline.com/Divx4360/petition.html

To: Microsoft and the Xbox 360 team
For weeks and months everyone waited patiently on the release of the Xbox 360 with all it features. Unfortunatly when some of us attempted to stream some videos to xbox360 we could not because they were in the DivX format.

Why isnt divx a supported video codec? It is far more superior to all of the other supported codecs and is widely accepted by anyone who knows anything about video files to be the best.

There have heard rumors that the reason it hasnt been supported is due to illegal backing up of dvd's etc. In that case every video and audio format the 360 supports should be removed as all formats have the possibility being used illegallly.

At this point in time are many products out there which will only encode in divx, eg the archos av400 and the rest of the archos av series. There are also plenty of DVD/divx players currently for sale on the market. Why should the xbox 360, potentially the hub of our home entertainment centers lack this vital link the chain?

Please either explain this serious oversight, or release an update so that the divx codec is supported.

We look foward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned

Re: Divx for Xbox360 - SIGN The Petition !!

wether it works or not its nice to see someone take a pro-active approach to some of the issues....I suggested a similar idea about the tv stations and epg data and all the responses were just 'it will never work etc etc whine whine whine...whining on a forum doesn't help fix the problems reps to you for helping do something

Re: Divx for Xbox360 - SIGN The Petition !!

unfortunatly, the chances that this will be recognised by MS is lower than ....well something really really low.

that petition online place has petitions for everything under the sun. e.g. Support for Nathan Warmack's Right to Wear his Kilt, Musical Interpretation on the Internet....these are in the top 10 too.

i shall sign the petition however as you never know. whats more important though is that we are talking about microsoft here. as well all know they're plans are for IT world domination. they won't be encouraging users away from they're proprietary products. sucks, i know. there will be hacks for it though. look at it like this, does MCE support any 3rd party media content apps? ....i dont acutally know for sure btw, im pretty sure they dont though. im new. but they dont support iTune files right? probably the single most used, copy protected, music file used?

anywho, thanks for the link.

Re: Divx for Xbox360 - SIGN The Petition !!

Guys there is a way (well at least I can confirm others have confirmed it works)

it involves esentially wrapping the xvid/divx up with an .asx file and streaming to 360. Search forums here it seems feasible and it seems a number of people have confirmed it works.
