Hi all, unfortunately over the last week we had a death in the famiy of our humble Xbox. I will go out and buy an Arcade but first i would like to know if there is any program out there that will play HD-DVD's, as i looked but cant find any to atually play it. My laptop and most others quite happily recognise the drive but cant play the disc. I am running Vista FYI.

AFAIK, Cyberlink actually discontinued HD-DVD support in their recent versions of PowerDVD so you might need to go with WinDVD Plus Blu-Ray which includes HD-DVD support or Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre, which supposedly has HD-DVD support, and a VMC plugin. I couldn't find a reference to the HD-DVD stuff on the Arcsoft website though.

It's still got a big HD-DVD logo when you open it, so that's hopeful. Does hardware acceleration too by the look of it. I tested a 1080p MKV between it & CoreAVC - 25% compared to about 50-55%.

In the end i ended up going and getting a new Xbox with the grid pack - when it was under $400 i jumped, i thought for an extender etc. then it was worth it. So now im back to figuring out what i did to the old one to make it do what i want.
