Hi Guys,
New to 360, so bear with me...
I think I know what the problem is, so would like confirmed, and then ideas to fix.
I have a Vista Home Premium machine in the living room (LivingHTPC) with onboard gig lan and another Vista Home Premium machine in the lounge room (LoungeHTPC) with onboard gig lan.
In the lounge, I have a 10/100 switch, with the LoungeHTPC, Xbox 360, and sat box plugged into it. Obviously, the LoungeHTPC lan only connects at 100, and not 1000.
In the livingroom, I have a 10/100/1000 switch, with the LivingHTPC, Play Station II, and sat box plugged into it.
These two switches then connect to a 10/100/1000 (gig) switch in the roof. That gig switch is then connected to the rest of my computers.
LivingHTPC is my main rig, does all the recordins, etc. It is all set up so that LoungeHTPC can access the recordings, music, etc on LivingHTPC (tho I cant get it to see the other way - another problem for later)
So, I have decided to set up the recently aquired 360 as an extender to LivingHTPC, such that later I can get rid of LoungeHTPC.
Now, problem is that LoungeHTPC and 360 see each other, LivingHTPC and 360 dont.
Read somewhere that the gig lan may be the problem, as the 360 wont negotiate properly. Is this correct??
I need to keep the gig lan, as I transfer files from LivingHTPC to another computer, for editing, and then back again. Obviously, a gig transfer is FAR quicker than 10/100.
So, if the gig connection is the problem, could I add a 10/100 lan card to the LivingHTPC AS WELL AS the existing 10/100/1000, both feeding into the same gig switch, and have the xbox 360 'connect' on the 10/100 to solve the problem???
If so, will the 360 'hunt out' the 10/100 connection, or do I have to do some black magic???
Thanks for any response :-)
