Have the videos got a .mgp or .wmv extention? An updated 360 can also see and play other formats including .h264 through the system blade. Are you looking at the correct folder through the blade?

Sorry Peter,

I can’t help you. All I can suggest is that you experiment with different types of files. The Mpeg files may not be compliant and may require encoding to Mpeg again. Sorry I couldn't help more.

You could try e-mailing me a small file that you can't play and I'll see if it works on mine.

What do you mean by recoding to mpeg again ? How do you do that, Have NERO, can that recode them. It plays on the windows media and NERO and QUICK PLAYER fine. They have been downloaded from LIMEWIRE. Would that be the problem. Can,t send you vid by email cause they wouldn,t fit.... Thanks Peter

Peter

The Xbox 360 is pretty fussy when it comes to playing video. As of the recent fall update, it can play H264/AVC, WMV, WMVHD and now DIVX/XVID but it is still very fussy about bit rates and audio etc so this can be a pain. Check Google for the Xbox 360 video FAQ which details exactly what it will or won't play.

Try downloading Handbrake. Its very good at converting DVDs to various formats including H264 and XVID/DD5.1 which work well streamed to Xbox 360. To convert your existing files you probably need to use Nero digital or something similar. Its a slow and arduous process but unfortunately there's no way round it.

Cheers
Ben

I've converted a couple of videos using Handbrake but have found they don't stream too well to my 360 as they get a lot of stutter. Play ok on MCE PC but streaming seems to give the 360 hiccups. I'm wired with cat 5e so network speed shouldn't be a problem.
What settings are you using in handbrake?
