Well unfortunately I'm another victim of the infamous red ring of death.
Although annoyed I'm glad it happened when it did as i still have two months left of the 12 month warranty and after ringing customer support they have sent me details to send it away to be fixed for free of charge.
Once fixed do you get another 12 months warranty or any extension on your original warranty?

Dude I would assume that M$ would NOT give you extra warranty over and above what already comes with the system. Although I did read some time ago that they were extending the warranties on systems purchased in the initial launch group.
I have an X360 and think that as an all over machine it's pretty damned good. Although this type of headline is a concern:
Based on what I have seen reported on other forums the standard situation is:
For warranty "repairs" (note you may get a different "refurbished" unit back) the further warranty is 90 days for that repair (obviously if you are still within the original 12 month period then that cover prevails)
For non warranty repairs (standard $199.95 fee) then the warranty is 12 months
I suggest you give the XBOX support centre a call on 1-800-555-741 and quote your repair reference number and get them to give you a specific answer as there appears to be an element of negotiation available based on other experiences
It's absolutely appalling. Why should we put up with this type of crap from a manufacturer that has had this information on the extremely high failure of their flagship games system.
I can understand if after say 5 years there was the usual failures starting to occur but after a few months even weeks is just....well reason for concern.
I read on Maxconsole or one of those blogs that one guy in the US had 6 units (the last of which failed moments after he got it back from M$ after having been repaired).
It does look like the pressure is mounting on them to address this issue - based on my research they have consumer programmes in the UK and the Netherlands and several newspapers in the UK, US and now Australia pursuing them and various online sites

bodogbodog I just noticed in your signature you're X360 is off for repair. hehehehehehe Damn it's like a virus. I'd better stop before it spreads and mine carks it.
Whirlpool often have polls asking who's had a system die for what ever reason. The results can be quite scary.
Hey Windeath - what else could I expect from a Dalek
I can only hope that my "repaired" unit (which I suspect will be a "refurbished" unit) comes back soon and continues to work - the downtime is killing me as I need it as an extender for my VISTA Media Center! - WAF is taking a hit!
Hopefully my experience is as good as Supafly's - My 360 is quieter and cooler ???? - I look forward to a quieter, cooler and more reliable console

Hey we Daleks didn't design or manufacture these dreadfully faulty consoles. If we had they would have already destroyed the Earth...hang on maybe that's M$'s ultimate plan.
Yeah, it was a bit foolish of me to think Microsoft would give me another 12 months. It's just worrying hearing how many people are on their 2nd and 3rd console. If Microsoft haven't addressed the issue its only a matter of time before it breaks again, when I'm out of warranty. Hopefully this new cool and quiet thing i have read about will solve the problems.
IAlso I'm not keen on receiving back a refurbished console. Who knows the history of the one you receive. At least I know the history of mine and I know I have taken reasonably good care of it (although it didn't help much).
I think I will take out the extended warranty. With a reported 30% failure rate the $70 is probably well worth the peace of mind.
