I am about to go down the path of putting together another two Vista Media Center's for the Bedroom and the Kids TV room but have deceied that the better option might me a couple of Xbox 360's instead.
My question is not I need to get the model with the HDD is al its to be used for is a MCE Extender or will be Xbox 360 Core with Multimedia remote control do the job ?

Core will do the job just fine, but the initial Media Center load from HDD does speed it up a little. Once you are in the Media Center UI then no difference. If the 360s are going to be used for anything else though I would strongly recommend the premium version for the included HDD.

What should I expect to pay for the premium version around Perth. I have had a price of $597 from Myer and JB HI-Fi
1 have 2 x 360 cores, and 1 x 360 premium..... I dont notice any difference in speed in loaded the core vs the premium.
Note: You will need a memory card for the core system (or HD) to update the xbox 360 dashboard from time to time, as it needs a storage device to temporarly download the updates.
for the price difference between a core and a full system, might as well go for the full, mainly coz the remote will cost you 50 bucks anyhow menaing your paying 50 bucks less for one with no hard disk and some missing cables ( that you may or may not need to buy )
I think thats the best price you will get if you dont use ebay or something I bought a 360 off of ebay about 8 months ago, premium pack brank new and sealed, about $480 including postage. That was about $100 below cost at the time. The Myer/JB deal sounds good
Can anyone spot any issues with using this as an extender - I am hoping it's going to be quieter than my current launch model XBOX 360 - which will be conigned to the games room
It includes:
Xbox 360 Arcade Console - This model includes an HDMI connector (but no bundled cable)
Wireless Gaming Controller
256MB Memory Card
Five arcade games: “Pac-Man Championship Edition”, “UNO”, “Luxor”, “Boom Boom Rocket” and “Feeding Frenzy”.
Your media centre remote control is able to control a XBOX 360 (you just need to change a setting in the dashboard to enable it)

Now thats a bloody great deal same price as a Wii basically. I was in JB today and saw they were selling all their core consoles for $378, might explain why.
Excuse the pun - but I reckon they'll "fly" off the shelves
I don't like to buy from JB as a matter of princiiple after they went with Bluray exclusively - although they lost their nerve I hear and are going to start stocking HD titles.
My wife saw this on the weekend, and the conversation went like this
Wife: "isn't that the same price as a Wii?"
Me: "yep, they just reduced the price for their new hardware"
Wife: "does it do that thingy with the TV in the lounge that you mentioned Xboxes do?"
Me: "Yep, it talks to the Media centre, so you can watch stuff thats on the Media centre.
Wife: "and it comes with pacman?"
Me: "you will probably need a small LCD TV to go with it.
Wife: "sure, whatever, let me check my bank account"
Well, Shock
She listens to me when I babble on about techstuff.
Once she sees this XBOX on a small LCD in the Bedroom, she might let me get the big LCD for the lounge that I have been hinting on.
If I have enough WAF points built up from buying her this (and she thinks its her idea, bonus points)
