Will the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive work in MCE 2005?

I ordered one of these on the weekend and plan to mount it in my MCE 2005 machine. I know people have got it working in XP but not sure if MCE will pick it up, have heard it will only recognise it as a CD Rom drive. Anyone heard anything?

I have heard that it will work with Vista straight up, and with drivers will work with XP, i dont think it would work in MCE, but ive never tried it so i dont know for sure. Have you got a 360? it might be easier just using it with 360???? :S

No I haven’t got a 360 yet. Will probably buy one if I can’t get the HD DVD drive to work in MCE. Someone might find a work around by the time they are released.

Well, it will work (in xp with drivers, native in vista) BUT your not going to be able to do anything with it until you get somthing like cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra (currently the only software HDDVD player software on the market)

~99 USD!

and it got a bug...

When Ultra is installed sound on 7 and SBS dont work... (assuming a codec issue because the sound is actually in the recorded files and plays back fine on other systems!)

Power DVD 7.0 however the sound on those channels works fine.

it won't work within the mce interface (apparently it can with an ugly hack that doesn't integrate all that cleanly)

Better of with Xbox 360 setu pas an extender taking care of your HD-DVD needs. but wait for the HDMI 120gb xbox to be released

Re: Will the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive work in MCE 2005?

Hi there,

can these drives be purchased now? I can't seem to find them listed anywhere is Australia.

Very cheap way of watching HD DVD.

Cheers,

Dean

Re: Will the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive work in MCE 2005?

Indeed they can be purchased now, go into your local EB Games store i know they have them. I own a game shop and i ended up just taking 5 games into EB (my competitor) and traded them in, ended up paying $95 for my HD-DVD Add on, because my wholesaler had been slack and not sent them to me yet.

This drive is well worth the money, it looks absolutely great and the way special features work with HD-DVD is brilliant.

You also get a free copy of KING KONG HD-DVD too if you didnt already know.

Re: Will the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive work in MCE 2005?

I got mine today from EB Games + the wireless steering wheel

The problem is that I am in Aus holiday so I can't test it yet. I have to wait until I get home in 2 weeks before I can check it out. Just hope everything fits into my cases. You have to scout around and it seems EB stores is the better option.

Cheers
