Question xBox 360 as ALternative to another MCE

Well my xBox360 just died - the dreaded ring of 3 lights - processor fail.

This is very annoying as I just got Vista and saw digital TV streamed from my main system to the 360. I wanted to play with it and see what it could do. Waiting for paperwork to send it back. . .Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I am looking at putting another system into our main bedroom using an LCD screen.

I am thinking of getting another xBox360 just a core system to use primarily as a TV and to access all the media on the main system. Pricewise it's probably cheaper than a full blown MCE. I could access all my videos recorded TV etc from the Main system.

I would love some comments / thoughts from you guys on the boards, What would be for and against.

Thanks

Luggage

ring of light is bad, but all xbox 360's have a year warranty. Send it to MS for repairs.

Thanks for your reply.

I had already spoken to MS and arranged for the xBox360 to go back and get repaired, hence the "Waiting for paperwork to send it back" in my original post.

The real point of my post as the tittle suggests is: "weather the xBox360 is a good alternative to buying another full blown VISTA MCE"

Cheers

Luggage,
I think it comes down to: Do you want to centralise your data and 'back room' the PC, with a number of extenders or do you want to have two fully opperating MCE rig's.

I'm a fan of having only the one PC, with a number of extender's (having said this I only have the one.) - you only have to spend the time setting one PC up the way you want it, then you can just add another extender

This is what Windows Home Server should have been IMO. An extender host, a bank of tuners & a centralized EPG/recording scheduler. With an MCE back end, you only get that with extenders & not MCE "client" PCs. That might be acceptable for most when a full range of low end Pika extenders appear, but at the moment, if you don't want an Xbox 360, your only choice is another MCE, & that doesn't completely integrate.
