1080i with XBOX 360

Hi Guys

Ive searched around for an answer to this but i cant find anything so im hoping i can get some help here.

Ive got my xbox hooked up to my NEC 106cm plasma via the component cables and when i go into the settings to change the output to 1080i the screen flashes a couple of times goes black then comes back up and says it is still outputting at 480p im assuming this means my screen cant display 1080i but i know this isnt correct. Any ideas?

Cheers

Tony

Re: 1080i with XBOX 360

thats very strange indeed, what model is your tv? because the only thing i can think of is that your screen can not output 1080i, what does it do when you choose 720p??

Re: 1080i with XBOX 360

The other possibility is that the TV only supports 1080i 50Hz, and not 60Hz that the 360 does natively. I think there is an option now to get it to test/use 50Hz when doing this - if you haven't connected it to Xbox Live you won't have gotten the update to enable this.

Regards,
Shane.

Re: 1080i with XBOX 360

Thanks for the response guys

its an NEC PX-42XM3W....its connected to xbox live.........i think it might be the 1080i/50/60 hz thing so i might have a muck round with those settings and see what happens...

my flat mate is watching the tv at the moment and will crack the s**** if i go out now and start fiddling with it so will have to wait till later

This is something that is misunderstood by most.

As it stands at the moment, your Xbox 360 will not output 720p or 1080i @ 50 Hz via component.

This is where the confusion comes from:

- When you select an HD output (720p/1080i) the console changes to to that @ 60Hz (what it calls PAL-60).

- When you confirm that you can view that, it tells you that it can output @ 50Hz & asks you if you'd like to test that.

- When you answer 'yes', it changes to 50Hz & asks if you can view that.

- When you answer 'yes' to that, it promptly changes back to 60Hz. It has simply confirmed the 50Hz ability of your TV.

The only thing it has actually done is to set itself to play DVDs back at 576p @ 50Hz (my TV reports it as 576p @ 50Hz, but it may be 480p). This update is not the universal panacea that people are looking for. MCX does not play back @ 50Hz in HD

The fact that for a brief period the dashboard is displaying at 720p/1080i @ 50Hz seemingly confirms that it is capable, so hopefully it will be added in a future update. A simple PAL-50/PAL-60 option in the settings while in HD mode would suffice.

Via the VGA cable, the situation is almost identical, except DVD playback is fully upscaled to the 720p/1080i resolution, but it plays @ 50Hz.

Justin

Re: 1080i with XBOX 360

Ive mucked round with some of the settings and i think that last post by logifuse seems to be the most obvious reason for the problem. The display says it is is receiving 576p from the xbox and the xbox says it is outputting 480p.

Picture still looks better via component rather than the VGA cable so i think ill stick with that.

Thanks all
