Tough break dude.

Were you gaming or just using it in extender mode?

Re: GRRRRRRRRRRR XBOX 360 just died

I rarely game currently, just tried to kick up extender mode.

Rang harvey norman, they were helpful, they are going to ring in the morning and use my number and there prvilege and if MS says replace (which they prog will) I just go in and get a new one. But beware all the return rates on xbox are high (too high this was rushed as it was originalkly to be watercooled). You get one year and if replace you get additonal three months after that you are on your own.

It's a bit of a worry that 360s can die so quickly being mainly used as an extender. I wouldn't have thought the load would be nearly a great as when gaming with them, but they certainly do run hot.

I've seen a lot of hardcore gamers add water cooling systems to their 360s, trouble with that is you've voided the warranty from day 1. So damned if you do and damned if you don't really!

I hope Harveys sort it ouy for you sharpish.

Re: GRRRRRRRRRRR XBOX 360 just died

Hey Simbot, by pure coincidence, I was just going through my daily RSS feeds and came across this: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4263

It kind of implies that all Xbox's manufactured in 2005 will get free repairs for an indefinite period. M$ are also offering rebates to anyone who ponied up their own dollars for repairs outside of warranty.

Doesn't really affect Aussie buyers who bought through legitamate channels though, as all our consoles were delivered in 2006.

Re: GRRRRRRRRRRR XBOX 360 just died

Yeah was about to post the articles links here

IGN: Microsoft Compensates Xbox 360 Owners

Prob will apply to all as it is getting ridiculous. I put 100 hours into obvlion and I may not get my savegame (Depends on whether or not they let me keep old harddrive. Some people have reported returning two+ xboxes all with what is now being coind "The dreaded 3 red lights". So much for their toutd ring of light if its all red

Re: GRRRRRRRRRRR XBOX 360 just died

nope, conjecture is the warranty replace will spread to australia and other territories soon.

Update on mine. Off to Auckland for repairs. EVen though I sell Media PC's and extenders as a result they would not allow Harvey Norman to send to them and replace. I spent 40 minutes on the phone to india and got nowhere. Very upset but what can I do? You buy at launch at $700 and use it as an extender. What they will do is increase the thermal paste of cpu and gpu and remove the foil they left in there (useless hey)

Issue is I loose the 100hrs invested into Obvlion

Oh well lesson learnt will not buy at launch or push MS products

Re: GRRRRRRRRRRR XBOX 360 just died

This scenario really sucks. It's unfortunate that the only true measure of product quality is a real life test with real life users, once it's in full production. Any wonder the Xbox ended up with version 1.6 using a variety of components the whole way.

You guys might be interested in this page. This guy completely mods his Xbox 360 with watercooling and a 15.4" WXGA screen...turning it into a laptop (essentially). I won't bother explaining it too much, but it's brilliant and here's the link:
