To everyone dissing Drobo, can you please explain to me why you think it's expensive?

Closest I can see to it is Thecus IP 4100+ at $693

I don't need a NAS but if I did, i could very easily repo any of my old machines, install freenas and plug the drobo in at minimal cost.

To me, the reason why Drobo is cheap is long term, in the future, I can buy larger drives and not be limited to the lowest common drive size (as in RAID 5).

I'm not seeing a good reason not to buy the Drobo especially considering i dont need a NAS.
