Re: ATI HD3650 no sound via DVI to HDMI
The feature of the newer video cards such as my 9600GT that quote HDMI is the ability to use one of the DVI outputs for a true HDMI source with audio. To acheive this they get digital sound via a supplied patch lead to run off your motherboards internal SPDIF header to the video card board (internally). Then they use a spare pin (I assume) in the DVI socket to output the sound on. Using a special DVI-HDMI adaptor they will give you a true HDMI with sound.
So yes I am going from a dvi socket. but in such a way that i get full HDMI with sound through a HDMI to HDMI cable.
These cards will come with special adaptor. You would not be able to get sound through DVI if the card did not have that recent ability, even using a the generic HDMI to DVI adaptors (that I was using previously on my old card).
