Nope - it ain't my imagination!
Just moved some large files to my WHS box, I used to struggle to achieve 10 MB/s and more often than not it gradually slowed to around 4 MB/s by the end of the transfer.
With SP1 installed, transfers screams through at between 33 MB/s (slowest at the start) up to 43 MB/s. Also once top speed has been reached, unlike pre-SP1, the transfer speed remains constant until completed.
