HDMI is not a computer video connector format - it's designed for TV and therefore doesn't usually support resolutions like 1366x768. It is also generally self-configuring. So your problem is likely that the TV reports to the HTPC that it's best resolution is 720p (1280x720) - a standard TV resulution. So if you want to stick with HDMI then 720p is probably the best resolution to run on your setup as that's what the TV is telling the video system it can support. With the size of monitor you're running you're unlikely to notice much difference with a higher resolution anyway.
