Nice idea but I've had nothing but dramas with it in the last 3 weeks I've had it.
AUDIO PROBLEM
Firstly, I can't for the life of me get my receiver to accept HDMI audio from the VMC. I get audio from the SPDIF no problems. I then switch to HDMI audio output and nothing, zip, nada. Has anyone successfully managed to get audio out of this MoBo? I've updated to the latest Realtek drivers. It appears to be working in VMC as it says it's active when I set it to the default but still no sound to the receiver. My hope was that I would use my fancy new receiver to (eventually) decode the new HD audio formats it supports via HDMI 1.3a when I upgrad to BluRay. I understand you can only get these via HDMI and not via SPDIF. Hence why I want this to work.
VIDEO PROBLEM
I'm using the latest version of the ATI Catalyst suite. The problems are many.
1. My LCD is 1366x768 native. If I use the VGA output from the MoBo, I can run it at 1360x768 at 60Hz without a problem. Using the HDMI output from the MoBo, I can only drive it as far as 1280x768 at 60Hz and if I stuff around long enough, I can manage to get it to run at 1360x768 at 30Hz and no better. Why is this? No matter what I do, it won't budge any further.
2. The next issue is that no matter how I sequence the starting of the components, I can never get my display to start at 1280x768 once I get it set as per item 1. My display will usually fire up at 1280x720 or sometimes 1024x768. I then have to go into ATI Catalyst and change the resolution manually. It's a right royal pain in the ****. The WAF has well and truly gone out the door. I'm guessing somewhere along the line, VMC is detecting the lower setting before the LCD gets a change to send its ID. Is there some way I can have VMC fix the resolution to 1280x768 without trying to detect the display first? I've tried playing with the settings in ATI Catalyst to no avail. Maybe I'm missing something?
My Utopian home theatre setup is a disasteruntil I can sort out the above. Any help would be appreciated. Has anyone successfully managed to use HDMI from VMC through one of the new breed of HDMI 1.3a receivers regardless of brand of MoBo or receiver? It would be nice to know it's at all possible. Might give me fresh hope I'm not fighting a losing battle. I might even consider changing bits to make it work. I'm dying here.

I just started using hdmi yesterday to my lcd and Avr.In order to get sound over hdmi I had to switch on that option in the bios , boot to windows , go to control panel , windows sound applet and then change the putput for audio from spidf to hdmi.Sound now works over hdmi.
Make sure to select sound over hdmi on your avr as well.
As far as I know HDMI connections only support a few video resolutions ie 480 , 576 ,720,768 and 1080.I ended up using vga for the lcd@1366 x 768 and hdmi for the projector otherwise I had the same experience you are having.
