Here's a problem though - it came with a remote, but I'm not sure how to make it work, it's not responsive so I'm guessing it doesn't work through the MCE remote receiver.
Forget about the remote in MCE - the tuner will have a receiver for it built in, but MCE works best with it's own remote/receiver (or something like a Harmony that clones the MCE remote).

Also, all my channels are in the wrong aspect ratio - I'd like to change it, but have no idea how and can't find it anywhere - previously I had to do it through my STB remote.

Any ideas on those points?
That's the zoom setting in MCE. If you have the MCE remote, the info button will bring up the zoom menu. A right mouse click brings it up too.
