The other PC's on the network seem to be fine. I am getting a new wireless-n router next week so that will eliminate the problem (if it is indeed a faulty router).

Guess I just wait now

Thanks again for your help so far.

Well I've read similar stories about the firmware update error but I'm not sure they were related specifically to connectivity. One thing I have heard suggested is that you should disable upnp on your router. For whatever reason some people have found that this works. I would certainly go down the road of getting it working while physically connected before attempting any wireless config. Try setting a fixed IP address using the same subnet as your router. On my DMA2200 I have used an IP of 10.1.1.100 with a subnet of 255.0.0.0 and the gateway and primary DNS is set to 10.1.1.1. My D-Link router uses an IP of 10.1.1.1 with a subnet of 255.0.0.0. The thing to be sure of is that you don't use a conflicting address and you can prevent most routers from allocating that IP either by reserving it for the nominated device or by configuring the DHCP server to restrict the available range of addresses. The point is that if other devices are working on the network then there's not a lot of likelihood there's anything especially wrong with the router.
