Even though Microsoft have finally deigned to allow Australians access to the Windows 7 (3 PC) Family Pack, it seems that even in the midst of their generosity the clock might be ticking. Whilst the savings are substantial compared to a single user license, especially when picking this pack up for as low as $225.00 – it’s still falls a long way short of the OSX offer, which doesn’t expire! Over at windowsitpro.com, Paul Thurrot writes, “This week in Australia, Microsoft began...

In its first week of sales, Windows 7 has already surpassed Vista. Looks like the hype and impressive reviews of Windows 7 are paying off. Windows 7 software unit sales in the U.S. were 234 percent higher than Vista’s first few days of sales, according to the NPD Group. In comparison, first-week retail sales of boxed copies of Windows Vista were almost 60 percent below sales of boxed copies of Windows XP in the week after its 2001 launch. The numbers for revenue growth weren’t as stellar,...

Windows 7 and DirectX 11 bring to the table the graphics processing unit (GPU) for computing, Daniel noted. In this context, Windows 7 no longer limits the graphical processing unit to just graphics. Instead, the successor of Windows Vista allows for a marriage between the CPU and the...

According to the U.K. Telegraph, Microsoft has confirmed that computer users will be able to test the new Windows 7 operating system for up to 120 days before they need to buy it. Once the four month trial period ends, users will be asked to enter an activation code, which proves they have bought the software. Windows Vista, the predecessor to Windows 7, contained a similar loophole, and Microsoft has given users tacit consent to exploit it. “A total of 120 days total time is available as...

Microsoft’s Bill Veghte has talked about having just a single beta of the product, followed by a release candidate version and then a final release. The company has been aiming to get it out this year, although Veghte said it could still come out either this year or early next year. It’s now been confirmed that the Beta-1...
